Apple iPad Pro 2021 Overview:
M1 Chip, Fast Storage, and Thunderbolt
M1 chip has made its way to iPad Pro. The chipset has an 8-core CPU which has 50% better CPU performance than last year’s A12z chip. Also, the GPU performance has been improved by 40%. It has 16-core Apple Neural Engine and Advanced Image Signal Processor (ISP), making the iPad more powerful.
The iPad Pro is available for up to 16GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage. The storage is twice as fast as compared with its predecessor.
The USB Type-C port supports Thunderbolt and USB 4.0. It has maximum data transfer rate of 40Gbps and allows you to connect an external monitor with up to 6K resolution. The Thunderbolt also supports up to 10Gbps Ethernet speed.
5G
The new iPad Pro also has 5G models. As per the company, it has the most 5G bands among all the tablets in the market right now. In the US, it supports a millimeter-wave and higher frequency version of the 5G network which allows you to achieve internet speed up to 4Gbps. There is also support from eSIM so you can sign up for 5G plans on the spot.
12.9-inch Liquid Retina XDR Display
The iPad Pro 2021 comes with two display sizes: 12.9-inch and 11-inch. Let’s talk about the 12-inch first because there is some exclusive technology on the 12.9-inch model. There is a mini-LED design that consists of 10,000 LEDs across the entire back of the display. It has 1000 nits of typical brightness and 1600 nits of peak brightness. The panel has a stunning 10,00,000:1 contract ratio.
The 11-inch model has a regular Liquid Retina display. Both models support a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate which apple is using since 2018. They support other features like True Tone, P3 wide color, HDR, and Dolby Vision content. It also supports Apple pencil but you have to buy it separately.
Design and Magic Keyboard
Look wise, it is identical to last year’s iPad Pro. On the back, there is a square camera module on the top left side that houses dual cameras, a LIDAR scanner, and a Quad-LED flash. The apple logo is placed at the center of the rear panel. It has 4 speakers which make the media consumer consumption experience so good.
The Magic Keyboard with backlit keys provides a comfortable typing experience. It has an integrated trackpad and has a floating design for smooth angle adjustment. It comes with only a white color option.
Improved Front Camera
Here, the iPad Pro has a new 12MP Ultra Wide front-facing camera with a staggering 122-degree field of view. During a video call, the device can zoom in to keep you in the center of the frame and zoom out if someone sites beside you.
The rear camera remains the same but has some improvement from the software side. There is a 12MP wide lens, 10MP Ultra Wide lens, and a LiDAR scanner. Improved IPS and NPU in the Mi chip enable Smart HDR 3 and LiDAR scanner helps in autofocus during night time.
Taking about the video quality, the tablet can record 4k@24/25/30/60fps and 1080 up to 240fps from the rear camera while the front camera is capable of recording 1080p@24/30/60fps.
Rest of the Specs
The 12-inch model has a 40.88Wh battery while the 11-inch model has a 7538mAh battery. Both of them support 18W of fast wired charging. Don’t worry about the charger, Apple has included the 18W adapter along with a USB Type-C cable inside the box.
In terms of connectivity, it supports dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac/6, hotspot, Bluetooth 5.0, 5G (Cellular Model only), and has USB Type-C 3.1 thunderbolt port and magnetic connectors.
