Asus ROG Phone lineup is known for the best gaming smartphone. Last year they launched the ROG Phone 3 but they skipped the ROG Phone 4 because 4 is taken as an unlucky number.

Display and Design

The ROG Phone 5 comes with a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with an FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2448 pixels. It has a 144Hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch sampling rate. According to the company, the display can show up to 1B colors. Moreover, it is HDR 10+ certified and has 1200 nits of maximum brightness and ~395-PPI density.

Still, there are thick heads and chin at the front. They house dual speakers which produce high-quality audio. The phone measure 172.8 x 77.3 x 10.3 mm (height x width x thickness) and weighs 238g. It has quite a similar design to last year’s ROG Phone 3 with the Republic of Gamers logo on the back. The company has provided two Type-C ports on the phone with Type-C 3.0 on the side and Type-C 2.0 on the bottom.

Camera

Asus ROG Phone 5 features a triple camera on the back. The setup is led by a 64MP primary lens with an aperture of f/1.8 without OIS. It is accompanied by a 13MP ultrawide lens with an aperture of f/2.4 and a 125-degree field of view.

A 5MP macro lens completes the setup to take decent macro shots. On the front, there is a 24MP selfie camera. Taking about the video quality, it can record 8k@30fps, 4k up to 120fps, 1080p up to 240fps, and 720p@480fps from the rear camera and 1080p at only 30fps from the selfie camera.

Performance and Memory

This is the area in which the phone shines the most. The Asus ROG Phone 5 is powered by QUALCOMM Snapdragon 888 chipset based on 5nm process technology. It features 1x 2.84GHz, 3x 2.42GHz, and 4x 1.8GHz Kyro 680 cores. Here in this device, Adreno 660 GPU handles the graphics. There are different dedicated gaming modes and features that enhance the gaming experience.

The ROG Phone 5 comes with three RAM options: 8GB, 12GB, or 16GB. The 8GB RAM is paired with 128GB, 12GB with 128GB, and 16GB also with 256GB of internal storage. RAM used on the device is DDR5x whereas 256GB internal storages are UFS 3.1 while 128GB is UFS 3.0.

Battery & Other Specs

The phone has two cells each with a 3000mAh capacity which makes a total 6000mAh battery. It supports 65W fast wired charging and also supports reverse charging. The company claims that the 65W charger can charge the phone up to 70% in just 30minuts and up to 100% in 51 minutes.

Taking about the connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6e, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, Type-C 3.0 (side), Type-C 2.0 (bottom) and 3.2mm headphone jack. The phone is available in two color options: Phantom Black and Storm White.

Asus ROG Phone 5 has been launched in India along with some other European countries. It starts at INR 49,999 for 8GB/128GB and INR 57,999 for 12GB/256GB models. The expected price of the Asus ROG Phone 5 in Nepal is NPR 84,999 for the 8/128GB and NPR 99,999 for the 12GB/256GB variants. However, the device won’t be available in Nepal officially but you might see it through some grey channel.
