Performance and Memory

Acer Nitro 5 is powered by an Intel Core i5-10300H processor with NVIDIA GTX 1650 (4GB GDDR VRAM) GPU. 10th gen processor in 2020 is not that impressive. We were expecting the 11th gen i5 processor. Geekbench 5 (single-core) score of 9th gen i5 processor is 1036, whereas for the 10th gen i5 is slightly better and scores 1065. But in the multicore score 10th gen have a 6% higher score than the 9th gen processor. In the international market, it is available with AMD Ryzen 5 processor and RTX 2060 GPU.

Taking about the memory configuration, it comes with 8GB of DDR4x (2933MHz) RAM and 256GB of fast SSD (Solid State Drive). 256GB SS is not enough for maximum people, installing some heavy games will fill its storage. It can run graphic-intensive games without any problem but not at the highest framerates. This device can also be used for editing but due to its low storage, you might have some issues storing your contents. If you need more storage then you can get an external SSD or HDD. Overall, for the price, its performance is totally fine and might be best in the 1 lakh segment.

Design and Built Quality

Nitro 5 is definitely a good-looking laptop. It has a plastic hood with faux aluminum on the sides. The 15-inch model weighs 5.07 pounds and measures 14.3 x 10 x 0.94-inches which is normal for most 15 inch laptops. It has some design changes in the lid as compared with the 2019 model. The central part of the lid is made up of plastic and has a glossy finish.

Let’s talk about ports on Acer Nitro 5 2020, on the left side of the laptop, you will get 2x USB 3.0 Type-A ports, 1x 3.5mm headphone jack, 1x Ethernet port, and a security port. In a similar manner, on the right side, you will find an HDMI port, 1x USB 3.0 Type-A port, and a USB 3.2 Type-C port.

There is no notable change in the keyboard. Acer has retained the same keyboard design on Acer Nitro 5 2020. But this time they have added the red accent to the side of the keys. It is a full-sized keyboard with Numpad. Keys have a travel distance of 1.6mm and it’s satisfying for most of us. As for the keys, the touchpad has also got red accents around the border which looks amazing.

You will find 2x 2W bottom-firing speakers which are normal in a budget gaming laptop. Since this is a gaming laptop, most of the gamer uses gaming headphone. So this is not a huge problem.

Display

It has a similar display to the 2019 Acer Nitro 5 with a 15.6-inch FHD IPS LCD panel with a regular 60Hz display. You can get a 144Hz model in other countries but unfortunately, it isn’t available in Nepal right now.

The display has a maximum brightness of 300nits. Due to its low brightness, you might struggle to play games on sunny days but normally you will use it inside your house. This panel covers 60% of the sRGB color gamut which is average for budget gaming laptops. If you want a better display then you must be looking at other budget gaming laptops.

Battery

The Acer Nitro 5 2020 features a 4-cell 3320mAh huge battery. For the normal task, you will get around 9-10 hours of battery life but during gaming, you will get around 2-4 hours of battery life depending upon the game you are playing.

Conclusion

As 2019 Acer Nitro 5, 2020 model is also really impressive. It is an overall balanced budget gaming laptop. You can’t play games at a high frame rate on this laptop but it is totally fine for a budget gaming laptop. So, from my point of view, this is the best budget gaming laptop here in Nepal right now.
